Hair Care

Thinning edges: what helps and what hurts

By Heather Dapaah · 5 min read

Edges are the finest, most fragile hair on the head. They show stress first and recover slowest.

What hurts

Tight installs, heavy extensions pulling at the hairline, daily slicking with strong-hold gel and stiff brushes, and the same tension point week after week.

What helps

Lower-tension styles, moving where the weight sits, softer brushes and a gentle routine. Expect results over months, not weeks.

From the chair. If thinning is sudden or patchy, or comes with pain or scaling, see your GP or a trichologist. A salon can support recovery but shouldn’t replace medical advice.
